If you have never heard this name “ Almadinah Almonawarah”, give me the chance to tell you a little bit about it. It is the second holy city in the Islamic world because it is the location of the Prophet Mohammad’s ( peace be upon him) mosque. In this essay I am not going to talk about the city’s heritage or history much as I’d like to do. But I am going to talk about some strategies that I think will help to develop the city.
The Prophet’s mosque is located in the Central area which is full of life. During the season
of pilgrimage, people come from all over the world. So the area becomes busy and crowded. Even though this area is one of the most modern area in the country, at those times it becomes chaotic – so many people , cars , buses and taxies. There are lots of exhausted and noise which is not suitable with the holiness of the place. One of the solution that I believe in is , efficient to have car parks on the edge of the area so all personal transportation and taxies are banned from entering the Central area. How can people enter?? It’s easy ; use shuttles or metros which will drop people in the mosque or in the malls even the hotels. If that happens, the area will have a real religious and spiritual feel. Both residents and visitors will not be annoyed by cars honking or fumes from the cars exhaust.
Almadinah used to be an agricultural area which is famous for its delicious dates. There are still some farms , but not like before. Many farms have been destroyed and many young men abandon the f
arms and look for a better future I the technology , industrial or economic fields which are more in demand these days. I think people need to be motive to return back to their farms, but how?? The government should have encouraged working there, giving them many facilities to prevent their leaving. To introduce them to modern ways, to develop the land. Now , how can we repair the damage? The land needs her sons to come back to her. The best way is to have an agricultural plan and program which is focused on the way to attract young men to care about their land. First of all, schools should be green and there should be a lesson each week about plants especially palms. The lesson should not be oral because pupils should practice to love their palms. Then in each neighborhood there should be a competition for the greenest house. These simple steps will make young people appreciate the land and when they go into their careers they won’t forget. They will take care one way or the other. In fact, Almadinah has now started to give agriculture more attention. It is a bit too late, but at least they are starting to care about the agriculture.
In short, development needs sacrifices, but we don’t want these sacrifices to damage our environment by cutting plants and bringing noise pollution. We do want improve but not through the easiest which leads to the destroying of natural resources.
